About
Deborah Bowen
Deborah Bowen was born in Melbourne and began painting and creating in her earliest days with her mother’s mantra of ‘keep your hands busy’ as a major influence. Her medium is glass, be it creating warm glass pieces which are then fired in a kiln, such as panels, tapestry, drop vessels, murine and sculptural pieces; hot blown glass vessels; or cold glass lead light or copper foiled panels.
Deborah's techniques lend themselves to her preferred style of pattern and repetition and further explores the themes of connection and fragmentation. She loves the way light and glass interact causing refraction and reflections. Most of her pieces bring this together and look best hanging in windows.
Deborah teaches glass in her home studio, utilising her long career as a school teacher and her extensive education in many glass techniques. She exhibits widely, takes commissions and sells through her social media, markets and galleries.
Deborah is part of the Banyule Open Studios program where artists from the local area open their studios to the public so they can step into an artist’s world, see demonstrations and buy work directly from the artist.
