The Women of Montsalvat

Victorian Women’s Public Art Program

I am excited to be part of a small team of women creating artwork to the brief of The Women of Montsalvat funded through the Victorian Women’s Public Art Program in 2025-2026. This artwork celebrates the founding women of Montsalvat who were the driving force behind Montsalvat’s design, construction and culture.

Lead artist, Amanda Grant, and I have designed and are creating a large sculpture to sit permanently in front of The Barn Gallery at Montsalvat. I am creating cast glass pieces to be inserted into the sculpture. This involves taking clay impressions of various architectual and artistic features around the Montsalvat grounds and buildings; casting these in a plaster / silica mix; and then further casting these plasters moulds in glass at my home studio.

Parallel to the sculpture, is a further sculpture by Amanda Grant and mosaic artist, Sonja Parkinson of Logohatch; songs created by Cath Rutten, of Singing Her Space; and writing created by Sarah Hammond of Nillumbik Council.

Exhibtions have taken place at Montsalvat, including the works of The original women of Montsalvat; and further a contemporary exhibition of women’s art, Women of the Badlands, drawing from local art collectives including Baldessin Press, Laughing Waters, Dunmoochin and Montsalvat.
